Yes — Hamilton Gardens is completely free to enter. The themed garden areas (Fantasy Gardens, Productive Gardens, Cultivar Gardens, and the newer Paradise Gardens) are all included at no cost. Only special events have a ticket price. It's one of the best free family attractions in New Zealand.
Is Hobbiton worth visiting from Hamilton?
Absolutely. Hobbiton (at Matamata, 45 minutes from Hamilton) is one of the most popular paid attractions in NZ for families. Guided tours run throughout the day and take about 2 hours. Book online in advance — especially in school holidays it sells out. The Shire is genuinely magical for kids who have seen the films and remarkable even for those who haven't.
