Motueka Family FAQ
Is Kaiteriteri Beach the best family beach in the South Island?
It's in the top 3. Kaiteriteri has everything: golden sand, calm protected bay, clear water perfect for swimming, stand-up paddleboards and kayak hire, a café and playground on the beachfront, and water taxis into Abel Tasman. In summer it's popular but the beach is large enough to spread out. Book your Kaiteriteri holiday park early — it fills months ahead for the Christmas–January period.
Can we do Abel Tasman in one day from Motueka?
Yes — a half-day water taxi + walk combination is very doable. Take the morning water taxi from Kaiteriteri (10 min from Motueka) to Anchorage or Bark Bay, walk 2–3 hours of the coast track, and return by water taxi in the afternoon. The track is well-formed and the beaches are stunning. Book your water taxi the day before — they're popular in summer.
