Is Milford Sound Nature Cruise Worth It for Families?
A Milford Sound cruise is one of the greatest experiences in the world. Sheer 1,500-metre peaks rise straight from the water, Stirling and Lady Bowen Falls cascade into the fiord, and dolphins regularly surf the bow wave of your boat. Rain actually makes it better — hundreds of extra waterfalls appear on the cliff faces. Allow 2 hours on the water.
Pricing note: Prices vary by operator and season. Book Real Journeys or Cruise Milford.

Insider Tips
- 💡 Book the earliest cruise (8am from Milford) — before the tour buses arrive from Queenstown
- 💡 Rain is not a problem — more waterfalls appear in wet weather
- 💡 Sit outside for the best experience and photos
- 💡 Base in Te Anau (not Queenstown) to make the 2h drive manageable
- 💡 The underwater observatory add-on ($20/person) is worth it for kids
