Surf Lessons at Mt Maunganui

If you're looking for a fun and exciting activity to do with your family in Tauranga, consider taking a surf lesson at Mount Maunganui. With its consistent small-medium waves and sandy bottom, Mount Beach is one of New Zealand's best learner surf beaches. Our family recently gave it a go and here's our honest review.

What it's Like with Kids

We were a bit worried that our kids might struggle to catch waves, but the instructors at Mount Maunganui were fantastic with them. The 2-hour lesson was just the right length, and the kids had a blast trying to stand up and ride the waves. The beach itself is very family-friendly, with plenty of parking, toilets, and food options nearby.

One thing to note is that the lessons can be quite crowded, especially during peak season. But the instructors did a great job of managing the groups and making sure everyone got a turn to try and catch some waves.

Age Suitability and Value for Money

The minimum age for the surf lessons is 7+, and we think this is about right. Our 9-year-old picked it up quickly, but our 7-year-old struggled a bit. The cost is $95 for adults and $80 for kids, which we think is pretty reasonable for a 2-hour lesson.

Overall, we'd say the surf lessons at Mount Maunganui are great value for money. The instructors are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the beach is a fantastic spot to learn how to surf.

Insider Tips and Best Time to Visit

To make the most of your surf lesson, we recommend booking early in the morning or later in the afternoon. The sun can be pretty intense during the middle of the day, and the beach can get quite crowded.

If you're looking to save some money, consider booking a group lesson instead of a private one. You can also look out for discounts and special deals on the surf school's website or social media pages.

How to Book and Save Money

Booking a surf lesson at Mount Maunganui is easy - just head to the surf school's website and follow the prompts. You can also book in person at the beach, but we recommend booking in advance to avoid missing out.

To save money, be sure to look for any discounts or special deals that may be available. You can also consider booking a package deal that includes accommodation and other activities in the area.
